Challenge Yourself !

Ray Yen
Next month, Feng Chia University will hold a running race. I think running is a good way to challenge myself, so I will be participating.  How about you?  Are you ready for a challenge? There are 4.5-, 7-, and 10-kilometer races. If you are a beginner, the 4.5-km race would be the best choice. You can participate in the 7-km race the second time, and the 10-km race is for advanced runners, not new hands.
Making decisions is the first step to challenging yourself. You have to take action, not just think about it. When you make up your mind, you have to make sure of everything in advance. You have to know the date, distance, and time. Moreover, you need to know how to prepare for the race. I would like to share some useful tips from my PE teacher. The most important thing is to never give up; if you give up, your effort will have been in vain.
Here are four more tips for you before you begin the race. First, train yourself in different ways. Many people think it is enough to practice running long distances, but they are wrong. You also need to practice running uphill, downhill, and short distances. Second, don’t eat meat three days before the race. When your body needs energy, meat is transformed into energy more slowly than vegetables and starches. Third, sleep well before the race so that your body won’t feel tired. Fourth, don’t eat or drink too much before the race; if you do, you will feel uncomfortable while you run.
During the race, there are two secrets. First, run fast in the beginning. If you do this, you won’t be blocked by slower runners, or need to spend more power overtaking slower runners later. Second, run at your own pace. You have to make sure you have enough energy to finish the race.
After the race, you have to watch out for two things, as well. First, don’t stop right away. Your body is still working hard, so you have to walk a while and take deep breathes. Second, don’t drink too much water. If you drink over 300 cc in half an hour, you will feel uncomfortable.

Again, the most importance thing is that you never give up. You have to believe you can do it. When you feel tired or uncomfortable, you have to keep on. The more steps you take, the closer you are to the finished line.
With these useful tips and firm belief in yourself, you can challenge yourself in the running race. Challenging yourself not only gives you a stronger body, but also makes your confidence stronger. Also, if you perform well in the race, you can get a prize! Don’t hesitate; let’s run in the race and challenge ourselves together!
